Video: State policies are squeezing Washington farmers and farm workers

Rep. Gloria Mendoza, R-Grandview, shares her concerns about the growing pressures facing Washington’s farms and the farm workers whose livelihoods depend on them.

Drawing from her own experience working in Yakima Valley orchards and fields, Mendoza warns that rising costs, strict labor mandates, and new legislation are threatening the survival of family farms across the state.

Mendoza argues that when farms struggle or close, farm workers are often the first to lose opportunities. She calls for practical policies that protect workers while allowing farms to remain viable, and urges farmers and farm workers to work with her to push for balanced solutions that keep Washington’s rural communities strong.
