Rep. Gloria Mendoza welcomes Kennewick student as House page

Ismerai Mendoza, a student from Kennewick, recently served as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. She was sponsored by Rep. Gloria Mendoza, R-Grandview (no relation).

Pages assist representatives and House staff by delivering messages and documents throughout the Capitol campus, preparing the House chamber for floor sessions, and supporting other legislative duties. In addition to their work in the Legislature, pages attend daily classes where they learn about the legislative process and the operations of state government.

Ismerai is 14 years old and a freshman at Riverview High School in Kennewick, and the daughter of Ismael Mendoza of Kennewick. In her free time, she enjoys playing the clarinet.

“Hosting young people as pages is one of the most rewarding parts of serving in the Legislature,” said Rep. Mendoza. “It gives students a firsthand look at how state government works and encourages them to stay involved in their communities.”

The Washington State Legislature’s page program is open to students aged 14 to 16. Students spend a week in Olympia participating in the program while the Legislature is in session.
